United for the Future: Building a Stronger and Fairer Portugal
Raul Perestrello
Defending Values, Honouring Traditions, Building Tomorrow
I believe in a Portugal that is faithful to its roots, proud of its history and committed to a solid and fair future.
I reject ideologies that weaken our national identity and defend a society based on transparency, mutual respect and sustainable progress.
My commitment is clear: to all Portuguese people, to their rights and to a genuine, lively and participatory democracy.
It is with courage and responsibility that I intend to represent a country that believes in itself, its culture and the strength of its people.
We will give what others can only promise.
Empty promises don't change a country.
It is action, commitment and truth that transform people's lives.
Raul Perestrello believes in serious politics, where every decision has real consequences for the present and the future of the Portuguese people. With transparency, dedication and courage, he is prepared to face the country's challenges and build a fairer, stronger and more united Portugal.
Together, we'll turn words into results.
It's time to act. It's time to change.
I was born in Machico
Born on 15 June 1964 in Machico, Madeira Island, Portugal.
At the age of twenty, I set off for South Africa, driven by a constant desire to see the world and reunite with family members. I continued my journey across the African continent and then settled in Australia, where I lived for 30 years, building my own family base.
I recently returned to Portugal, to the place where I was born - our beloved Madeira - with the desire to bring back all the knowledge and ideas that can enhance the country.
I believe that I carry in my DNA the resilience and capacity for work of my ancestors and the Perestrello family, values that I intend to put at the service of Portugal and the Portuguese people.
Values
I believe in the values of social democracy
I believe in Christian and family values and I respect other opinions and convictions, but I always stick to my principles.
I'm a nonconformist entrepreneur and that's why I decided to take a more active political life in my country.
Future
I have always enjoyed being proactive as a citizen and I believe that I have a duty to look after a better democracy in Portugal and in the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores, but above all for the interests of all Portuguese people.
Knowing that there is a large majority who express their discontent at the continuity of a divided people, and without hope for a more democratic and prosperous future.
My journey
Allow me to briefly summarise my most recent career. I am an entrepreneur with more than 35 years' experience in creating and developing companies, working in various sectors of two industries that have marked my professional profile. My career has taken me to markets as diverse as Australia, Germany, China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and, more recently, Portugal.
Much of my experience has been in the precious metals industry - namely fine jewellery - working with a variety of metals, from silver to platinum, totalling 14 different types, aimed at various international markets. My activity encompassed the manufacture of fine jewellery, its wholesale distribution to large retail groups with hundreds of shops, as well as direct trade, including family shops and individual designers.
I was born on Madeira Island, Portugal, with ancestral family roots that go back to the island's first settlers, namely Bartolomeu Perestrello. I left Madeira in the early 1980s on an adventure that began with a holiday in South Africa. After a long and enriching stay, I explored much of that vast continent. Through family ties, I met my first wife, of Australian origin, and together we decided to embark on a journey with the common goal of discovering new destinations and enjoying our youth.
It was in Australia that I decided to continue my studies, completing a degree in Electrical Engineering at the TAFE Institute in Sydney. Shortly afterwards, I joined one of the city's leading electrical engineering companies, specialising in HVAC systems for high-rise buildings, lift control and floor safety.
In 1988, during World Expo 88, my family and I moved to Queensland, where we founded one of the largest fine jewellery factories in Brisbane, producing over 30,000 pieces of precious metal jewellery every month. I have a success-orientated vision, enjoying achieving the goals I set, entrusting responsibilities to experienced professionals to ensure economic growth and team leadership. This approach has enabled our organisation to become one of the top three precious metals producers in Australia, doubling sales volume in a four-year period.
Although the precious metals industry has been our main business, my passion has always been the property market. Over the years, I've developed various projects, from small personal ventures to large developments such as the Mount Crosby Estate (QLD) - a 352-hectare property with 185 residential plots - as well as industrial projects for our own facilities.
In Portugal, I invested in small projects in the hotel and local accommodation sector, which served as a catalyst for my involvement in this republican project.
With the same principles and discipline that have always guided the realisation of my goals.
